Well, here comes May, in other words, questioning time. On every March of the year i am assessing what i have done in the last year in this blog and think about what can i do for the next year. This habit both enables me to look at my blog from outside and imposes some responsibilities on me. In the last year's post i have mostly thought about what can i write in this blog. This year's subject is a little bit different. Why i slowed down?
I saw that i mentioned a couple of posts that i would like to write this year in the last year's post. Turns out i was able to write some of them and failed the others. Now you might think i am lazy. In fact, i was barely able to write one post per month this year. That is why i want to explain why i got slower in this post.
First of all, the reason is not about whether people are reading my blog or not. I am not looking to know how many people are visiting my blog, since this is my hobby and legacy. I really don't know about my visitors. Even if i know no one is reading it, i think i would still keep on writing.
I have decided that some of the posts that i was planning to write hasn't matured enough. There are subjects that i always wanted to write but never able to bring pieces together. Because at the end of the day, i want to be pleased with my own blog posts too. Even though it is mostly a hobby, i don't want to look back and be ashamed of what i produced in the past, like software engineers do :)
Also, after years of blogging, your backpack is kind of diminishing. Of course i can write a lot of things about software development topics but i don't want this blog to be all about software. The other categories are naturally accumulation of non-professional skills. That is where the danger of exhaustion lays down. But don't worry, i am not running out of ammo so soon :D The main problem is as i mentioned, being unable to mature the subjects.
There is one more issue. Sometimes, i just feel like what i am writing is unnecessary or irrelevant when i look around and wonder what i can or should give to this world. I had felt this last year too. For example, i can write about how gaming world became dangerous and ridiculous in a long post. But i also wonder if letting people know about this has any good for people.
Basically, there is a small chance that i get a writer's block by finding my ideas not worthy or failing to mature them enough. At least from my perspective, this is a risk. Still, it doesn't seem like it would happen soon but it is kind of alarming to see the average post per year decreasing drastically :)
I had an idea this year and i wish i had it from the beginning. It would be nice to choose the best post of every year. So why not start today, even though i don't know how long i can write. Let me list the bests of the years of 4 years.
So what are my goals for this year :D It doesn't work that way, you can't just set a goal of writing a certain post in blogging. Because at some point inspiration comes from out of the blue and the subject becomes clear to you. You literally see how you can detail it and examplarize it. You can't intentionally reach that state of mind. Yes i do have some posts in the writing list but some of them requires some reading and research or waiting for inspiration. I also have 2 ideas that can be a series of posts but they require lots of effort. But my biggest goal is to achieve 1 post per month average. That would mean i am getting used to be lazy.
So i end up another post where i question myself. My motivation is not to reach a certain visit count or a certain amount of earnings. Therefore i don't have a reason to stop. My only rival is myself :D Let's see what will i write the next year if i am still alive an kicking. See you at the next post :)
